Back AP CM arrives in Beijing Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Jan. 30 THE Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, arrived in Beijing on Sunday on a six-day visit to China. He will look into the massive Three Gorges Dam project being taken up in the Hubei province. This has been included in Dr Reddy's itinerary in view of his Government's plan to develop irrigation projects worth Rs 46,000 crore in the next five years. Once completed, the dam will become one of the largest hydel projects in the world. Dr Reddy is accompanied by the Minister for Major Irrigation, Mr P. Lakshmaiah, and the Minister for Agriculture, Mr N. Raghuveera Reddy. The delegation will also study the progress made by China in agriculture, irrigation, power, urban development and infrastructure, according to a Government press release here. Dr Reddy is the first senior Indian leader to visit China under a new bilateral mechanism that facilitates exchange visits by senior political leaders, the release said. This is aimed at providing "new directions to furthering co-operation between the two nations." The delegation will hold discussions with Mr Gu Xiulian, Vice-Chairman of National People's Congress, and Mr Du Qinglin, Minister for Agriculture.
