Hospital gets navigation system

BANGALORE, JAN. 30. Hospital for Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine, Arthritis and Accident Trauma (HOSMAT) has acquired a computer navigation system to help perform neurosurgeries, spine and joint replacement and accident trauma victims.

Thomas Chandy, director and chief of orthopaedics of the hospital, told presspersons here on Saturday that the system helps precision surgery in a short time with less blood loss.

It has two camera eyes, which works like the two satellites of the GPS system. With the help of surface markers fixed to the body, the anatomy of the operating area is assessed and displayed accurately and 3 dimensionally on the computer.

A Z-Touch marker-less pinpointing system is also available for maxio-facial surgery and neurosurgery.
