Dog show ends in chaos

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, JAN. 30. The organisers of the 82nd and 83rd All Breeds Annual Championship Dog Shows cancelled the final leg of the event here on Sunday after hundreds of veterinary college students protested against an alleged assault on two student volunteers by an exhibitor.

The volunteers were reportedly calling out entries and asking the participants to prepare for their turn to take their dogs when the incident took place. In the melee, power supply to the venue (on the veterinary college campus) was switched off.

Scared by the turn of events, the participants and judges rushed out of the venue. The organisers had to cancel the final leg of the event, entries for which had come from different parts of the country.

The police arrived at the venue and pacified the agitated students and promised them that they would get a written apology from the person who had assaulted the volunteers. But a group of students did not relent and staged a dharna. After much persuasion, the students agreed to accept the apology and not to file a police complaint. A delegation of students later went to the Sanjaynagar police station to complete the formalities.
