Expedite metro

rail project

Sir, — Bangalore urgently requires a metro rail system. Tinkering with one-ways, building flyovers and other ad hoc measures have hardly made a difference to the chaotic traffic situation in the city. The authorities should finalise the type of railway system the city needs and initiate work on the same as soon as possible. Those who are affected by the metro rail project should accept a reasonable compensation in the interest of the city. No litigation or action that will block the rail project should be initiated so that the city can have a working metro railway in five years.

Install better

street lights

Sir, — In J.P. Nagar 2nd and 3rd phase phase, there is a need for better street lighting systems. At present, electricity poles have been fitted with old tube lights and only a few of these are working. At night, a number of roads are completely dark. This is dangerous as there is heavy traffic on the roads in these areas and a good lighting system such as sodium vapour lamps must be installed. I request the authority concerned to take action in this regard immediately.

Road in bad condition

Sir, — The road in front of Rustambagh estate, parallel to Manipal Hospital, is in a very bad condition. The road is too narrow for two-way traffic. When there is a traffic jam on Airport Road, the entire stretch of this road gets filled with vehicles. Also the road in front of Wild Flower Hall Apartments is filled with potholes and is a mess during the rains. Will the authorities concerned look into the matter and do the needful.

N. Raju,

Bangalore.

Divert traffic

Sir, — Ever since a median was erected on 30th Main in Banashankari II Stage near the Ring Road, the volume of traffic on the stretch between 30th Main Road and 17th main of 27th Cross has increased manifold. The noise and air pollution from these vehicles is creating problems for the elderly, children and physically challenged persons. Also, two -voltage transformers have been placed near the children's park. It is requested that the authorities ban the entry of vehicles from 30th Main to 27th Cross and that vehicles be diverted through 30th Cross.

R. Guru Rao,

Bangalore.
