Back Kerala cabinet clears local housing scheme

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Cabinet has cleared a loan-based housing scheme to be implemented in 30 select grama panchayats in Idukki, Kottayam, Wayanad, Pathanamthitta and Kollam districts.

Briefing newsmen here after a Cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, said on Wednesday that these local bodies would avail themselves of loans from the district co-operative banks for implementing the scheme.

The Cabinet also sanctioned 18 posts to speed up land acquisition for the Ezhimala Naval Academy. An office would be opened for looking after the land acquisition programme. Another office has been sanctioned for speeding up land acquisition for ensuring road connectivity to the Vallarpadam Container Transhipment Terminal.
