Hung Assemblies in Jharkhand, Bihar: exit poll

NEW DELHI, FEB. 3. As the first phase of poll ended in Jharkhand and Bihar, a private television channel predicted hung Assemblies in both the States but said the Congress would gain considerably in Haryana.

According to a Zee News exit poll, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) would suffer major losses in Bihar with the Congress and BJP registering marginal gains.

The exit poll said the first phase of the elections in Bihar for the 63 seats of the total of 243 seats was likely to fetch the Congress 14-18 seats and the BJP 18-22 seats. The LJP which is travelling with the Congress would be the major gainer, the poll predicted.

The ruling RJD, with only 15-19 seats, is likely to receive a major setback.

In Jharkhand, where the polling was held for 24 of the total 81 Assembly seats in the first phase of polls today, the BJP might lose one seat while the Congress and the JMM gain 5 and 3 seats respectively.

In Haryana, where the polling was held for all the 90 seats today, the exit poll prediction clearly showed Congress gaining 39 seats while the INLD losing 36 seats.

The Congress might reach a total of 60 seats while the BJP tipped to get 3 seats, the exit poll predicted. — UNI
