SlashSupport's tech service for Linux market

BANGALORE: SlashSupport is targeting the emerging open standards space with the launch of its tech support service offerings for the booming Linux market. According to Jyothi Satyanathan, Linux Business Manager, IBM, said that SlashSupport would work with IBM to offer customers tech support on Linux. Based on the IDC estimates, the overall Linux marketplace revenues for server and PC hardware and packaged software on Linux are expected to reach $35.7 billion by 2008. Linux is estimated to have grown by 70 per cent in the server segment in India, while Windows grew at 40 per cent. The Open standards tech support offering will target at desktop and enterprise customers in SME and large enterprise segments. The new service offering includes comprehensive technical support, remote monitoring and capacity planning and system maintenance. The support offering will enhance the convenience offered by distributors including Red Hat, Debian, Mandrake, SuSe, turbolinux, Corel, Caldera and Slackware.
