NEW DELHI: Morepen Laboratories Ltd has filed a patent for a new polymorphic Form IV of cholesterol lowering drug, Atorvastatin Calcium, in about 33 countries, including the US, Canada and other European countries.

According to a company statement, Morepen received approval for Atorvastatin under the Patent Co-operation Treaty last year. Currently, the market for this drug is $10 billion and the company is in the process of finalising tie-ups with other generic companies in the US to market the drug there. It hopes to capture 15-20 per cent of the market.
