Back Drive to tackle jaundice in Kerala Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has set up an apex level monitoring committee to implement the multi-pronged strategies for tackling the outbreak of jaundice. Announcing this, an official spokesman said here that the Additional Secretary in the Health Department, Mr Rajan Khobragade, would be the convener of the committee. Similar committees would be set up in the districts, with the respective Collectors as chairpersons and the District Medical Officers as convenors. At the panchayat level, the respective panchayat presidents will head the committees, while medical officers of the primary health centres will be conveners. The Health Department will make available the necessary funds to implement the action covering treatment, prevention and mass campaign. These decisions were taken at a high-level meeting convened here by the Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy. Also present were the Health Minister, Mr K.K. Ramachandran; the Water Resources Minister, Mr Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan; and the Education Minister, Mr E.T. Mohammed Basheer.
