Back Kerala: Levy on liquor transport Our Bureau
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government has notified the levy of a fee for transporting liquor to Mahe in the north, a territory administered by the Government of Pondicherry. According to the notification issued here on Monday, the fee for permits to be issued by the Excise Commissioner for the purpose will be Rs 25,000 each. The fee has been imposed with a view to recouping revenue loss running into crores of rupees in sales tax and excise duty suffered on account of the movement of liquor consignments from Mahe to regions administered by the Government of Kerala.
