Suicide bid by youth outside Secretariat

HYDERABAD, FEB. 11. A physically challenged youth, Venkat Ram, was admitted to the Osmania Hospital after he reportedly consumed pesticide outside the main gate of Secretariat on Friday evening. His condition is said to be critical.

The police said that Venkat Ram (23), a native of Chittoor district had incurred huge debts. It is learnt that he was unable to perform the marriage of his sister, as he had to repay large amounts.

He came to the city a couple of days back to seek financial assistance from the Government. He is learnt to have met some Government officials who reportedly drove him away.

Depressed over this, he went to Secretariat today around 4.15 p.m. and allegedly consumed pesticide and collapsed. He was rushed to Osmania Hospital. A suicide note purportedly written by him stated that after his death, at least his parents might get some financial benefit. The Saifabad police registered a case and took up investigation.
