HYDERABAD: The State is likely to set up a centre of excellence to promote academic activity in the field of natural gas and petroleum.

The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, showed interest in launching such a centre while interacting with a delegation from the Indian School of Petroleum (ISP-Delhi) here on Saturday.

He asked the delegation to prepare a project report. "We will take a proactive step," he assured the delegation.

The delegation, headed by Mr T.N. Rao, Chairman of ISP's advisory board, said there was good scope for such a centre in Andhra Pradesh where explorations were on to tap the natural gas reserves.
