SMOOTH SAILING: A container vessel sails into Kochi Port. — H. Vibhu

THE Cochin Steamer Agents Association, affiliated to the Federation of Ship Agents Association of India (FEDSAI), has expressed hope that it would be smooth sailing for Dubai Ports International (DPI) in container terminal operations at Kochi Port.

The Association President, Mr Ivor Gonzaga, said the takeover would be free of any labour disputes, and the vessels that call at the terminal would have a faster turnaround with DPI's efficiency.

The Cochin Steamer Agents Association was established in 1978 to take care of the interests of the shipping community, mainly steamer agents operating out of Kochi. It was set up to promote organisations to deal with matters relating to shipping in general.

It is a fact that the CSAA is the only organised body at Kochi to represent the shipping business and trade, in particular the steamer agents.

Primarily, the CSAA helps safeguard the interests of shipping at Kochi through its dealings with Central and State governments and other statutory bodies involved in the trade. It also actively involves discussing, considering and deciding the course of action required to promote the growth and development of shipping interests in the region.

The CSAA disseminates, to its members, trade updates to keep members abreast on trade happenings.
