Pune , Feb. 17 PATNI Computer Systems Ltd, is setting up a new facility in Pune to accommodate 2,000 seats. The new centre is expected to become operational within 18 months, Mr Vijay Khare, Senior Vice-President, Patni, told Business Line. He said the new centre would cater to the same verticals as the existing centre. The company is expected to recruit between 3,500 and 4,500 people. It would be ramping up the seats in a phased manner. The investment for the new centre would be Rs 100 crore, which would come from the internal accruals of the company, he said. "In the last 10 years, we have continuously invested in physical infrastructure, domain capabilities and new service lines in Pune, to ensure our consistent growth. Our Pune operations have been key to the overall company growth, especially in the insurance vertical. "With the Cymbal acquisition, we now have a dedicated ODC at Pune servicing one of the largest telecom companies in the US. Going forward, our Pune centre will be strategic to our overall growth, he said". In addition to the proposed development centre, Patni is also on the look out for about 15 acres of land to build another campus, thus ensuring consistent growth in Pune, Mr Khare said.
The Pune centre had contributed close to 21 per cent of its overall revenues in 2004. The year had also seen an additional 600 employees joining the workforce, of which over one-third came from Patni's Cymbal acquisition.
