Two robbed of ornaments, cellphones

BANGALORE, FEB. 17. A software engineer and an employee of a catering agency were robbed of gold ornaments, mobile phones and a wristwatch, together worth Rs. 35,000, and Rs. 8,800 in cash in separate incidents reported from Koramangala and Basavanagudi police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said that around 11.30 p.m. four men who came in an autorickshaw waylaid Gaurav Sharma, a software engineer, on 9th Main, 6th Block, Koramangala. They threatened Sharma with a knife and robbed him of a gold chain, two rings, a mobile phone, a wristwatch and Rs. 800 in cash.

Sharma was walking towards his house in 6th Block, Koramangala, after dinner at a restaurant when the incident occurred, the police said. The Koramangala police have registered a case. In the other incident, three youths who came on a motorcycle waylaid M.S. Sachin and his friend, Surendra, who was riding pillion on a motorcycle, near Netkallappa Circle around 11.30 p.m.

They threatened them and relieved Sachin of Rs. 8,000 and a mobile phone. The robbers dashed their vehicle against Sachin's motorcycle before waylaying them, the police said. Sachin, a resident of Byatarayanapura, is employed in a catering agency. The Basavanagudi police have registered a case.

Theft at hospital

Two mobile phones and a vanity bag containing gold rings, a wristwatch and cash were stolen from a room in a hospital on Cunningham Road on Wednesday.

According to a complaint lodged by P.S. Munirathna, inspector at Ulsoor Gate Women's Police Station, her husband, Vijay Kumar, a head constable, has been admitted to the private hospital.

Around 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday, a hospital employee came to the room and told Vijay Kumar that he wanted to change the bed sheet. Vijay Kumar got up and went to the toilet. When he returned, he found that two mobile phones that kept for charging and Munirathna's vanity bag had been stolen. The bag also contained her identity card, ATM card and bank passbook. She was asleep in the room when the incident occurred. The High Grounds police have registered a case.

Minor raped

A seven-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour at Vasanthapura slum in Subramanyapura police station limits on Wednesday night.

The police said that around 7.30 p.m. when the girl was playing with her one-year-old brother, her neighbour, Vasanth (22), told her that he would get her jaggery to eat and took her to his house.

After raping her, he threatened her not to tell her parents, the police said. After the girl told her mother of the incident, she lodged a complaint with the police. The Subramanyapura police arrested the accused.

Fire at sawmill

Fire broke out at a sawmill at Kacharakanahalli in Hennur police station limits in the early hours of Friday.

Machinery and timber that were in two lorries were gutted. The vehicles were partly burnt, the police said.

Three fire tenders put out the fire that was reportedly caused by electric short-circuit. The Hennur police have registered a case.
