Back Anti-lock braking system may be mandatory for trucks Our Bureau
Chennai , Feb. 18 ANTI-LOCK braking systems (ABS) on trucks carrying hazardous goods could become mandatory next year, according to Mr Balraj Bhanot, Director, Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), Pune. Mr Bhanot said while it was up to the Governmentto bring in the necessary legislation, he expected the same to be brought in next year. "We will move on this gradually," he said, adding that over a period of time, ABS could be made mandatory on all trucks and eventually, on all kinds of vehicles. Mr Bhanot was here in connection with a meeting on "Road Safety" organised by Pricol Ltd. ABS is a device that comes into play when the left and right wheels of a vehicle ply on different surfaces (such as dirt and paved).
