HYDERABAD, FEB. 24. The outgoing General Manager of the South Central Railway, T. Stanley Babu, has urged unions to pursue with the Railway Board the issue of more funds to improve the railway quarters and colonies since the existing ones were on verge of condemnation.

Mr. Babu, who will retire this month-end after more than three decades of service in the railways, was felicitated by the South Central Railway Mazdoor Union here on Thursday. Special care on the needs of the Group `D' staff have to be taken by the administration and the unions, he said and added that whatever good was achieved during his tenure was due to team work.

The General Secretary of the Union, Ch. Sankara Rao, complimented Mr. Babu for his outstanding achievements in ensuring efficient functioning of the railways, providing better amenities to the rail users and taking up welfare measures for the staff.

The freight load had increased from 43 million tonnes to 50.75 million tonnes during his tenure. Several union leaders profusely garlanded the GM on the occasion, a press release said.
