Back Power from solid waste Our Correspondent MADURAI: The Tiruchi Corporation's proposal to generate power from solid waste has been approved by the Government. The 2.5-MW power plant, to be set up using bio-methanation technology under build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) scheme, would use 380 tonnes of solid waste generated every day in the town. The Institute of Energy Studies (IES) of Anna University, which conducted the project study to assess the resources, had given a favourable viability report. The plant is expected to cost around Rs 35 crore. As a follow-up, the corporation has decided to commission a consultancy agency through the Tamilnadu Urban Financial and Infrastructure Corporation (TUFIDCO). It has further set up a four-member panel to execute the tender process.
