Back Huge turnout at The Hindu job fair Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Feb. 26 NEARLY 45,000 boys and girls, some with their parents in tow, made it to The Hindu Opportunities job fair that began here this morning. While a huge turnout was expected in view of the fact that some of the top guns in IT and ITES space were participating in the fair, the actual number of visitors on the first day of the two-day fair exceeded the number of job seekers expected during the two-day event. As if to emphasise the fact that IT or ITES industry does not discriminate against the physically challenged, there were a quite a few physically challenged applicants too. After registering their names at the specific enclosure, the candidates made a beeline to the Codissia Trade Fair buildings where the 32 participating companies had put up stalls to interact with the applicants. The visitors were seen anxiously enquiring about their job prospects in companies and handing over their CVs to the people in charge. Speaking to Business Line, a spokesman for a leading software company said by and large, the quality of applicants was good and said. ``We made a good harvest.'' But he hastened to add that it might be too early to say when they would decide on the final selection. While the company was able to finalise selection in a few cases of lateral entry (of persons having professional experience), with regard to freshers the company had collected their CVs. After processing their applications, it would shortlist the candidates.
