TATA Motors on Monday reported a 20 per cent rise in total sales for February, including export, to 36,977 vehicles from the year-ago level of 30,845 units.

This included a 15 per cent growth in domestic sales of commercial vehicles to 17,656 units with a 5.5 per cent rise for medium and heavy commercial vehicles (M&HCV) to 11,303 units. Light commercial vehicle (LCV) sales for the month were up 38 per cent to 6,353 units.

In passenger vehicles, the company's domestic sales stood at 16,031 units, a growth of 23 per cent. Indica sales were up 25 per cent to 9,152 units while that of the Indigo family moved up by 44 per cent to 3,519 units. Sumo/Safari sales grew 2 per cent to 3,360 units.

Exports in February amounted to 3,290 units (2,495 units). The company's total sales for the April-February 2005 period were up 27 per cent to 3,55,133 units, including a 26 per cent growth in commercial vehicle sales to 1,69,520 units.

M&HCV sales for the period showed a rise of 26.5 per cent to 1,14,997 units while that of LCVs were up 25.3 per cent to 54,523 units.

In passenger vehicles, cumulative sales for the year so far grew 27 per cent to 1,59,081 units, including a 31 per cent growth in Indica sales to 94,465 units and a 39 per cent growth in that of the Indigo family to 34,722 units. Sumo/Safari sales for the period were up 7 per cent to 29,894 units.

Exports till end-February stood at 26,532 units, an increase of 31 per cent.
