Arif for RSC summer camp

KOCHI, MARCH 10. Former National coach and Dronacharya Awardee S.M. Arif will be in charge of badminton at the Regional Sports Centre's summer coaching camp, which begins at the Rajiv Gandhi indoor stadium on April 4.

"Arif coaches some of India's best players, including P. Gopi Chand in Hyderabad, and he will be a big help in spotting talent and imparting quality training," said the RSC secretary, Arjuna Awardee George Thomas, here on Thursday evening.

The RSC's summer camp, which is open to all, is Kerala's biggest. And this year it has managed to rope in some former internationals, including C.C. Jacob for football and Wilson Cherian for swimming. George Thomas, who is also a former Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and his brother Suresh will join Arif at the badminton camp. Former Kerala Ranji coach P. Balachandran will be in charge of cricket.

Talented children, picked from the camp, will be given special long-term coaching.

The camp will be conducted for the following events: aerobics, athletics, ball badminton, basketball, billiards, snooker, chess, cricket, football, karate, kung-fu, badminton, roller-skating, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, volleyball and yoga
