BANGALORE, MARCH 10. The IV Fast Track Court has convicted and sentenced Subhashankar of Shanthinagar to three-and-a-half years imprisonment for torturing his wife for more dowry. The Magistrate, M. Ramesh Rao, also fined him Rs. 6,000. According to the police, Subhashankar had married Leelavathi of Malur in Kolar district on April 30, 1990. Leelavathi's parents had given him a gold chain, a gold ring, a wristwatch and Rs. 5,000 at the time of marriage. As Subhashankar was allegedly torturing Leelavathi asking her to bring Rs. 50,000 from her parents for constructing a house, her father, Munyiappa, supplied him four lorry loads of bricks and two loads of sand. On January 19, 1998, Subhashankar allegedly tried to strangle Leelavathi and sent her to her parents' house asking her to bring Rs. 50,000. Subsequently, Leelavathi lodged a complaint against her husband with the Ulsoor Gate Women's Police Station. The police arrested Subhashankar and filed a charge sheet against him in the court.
Arrested
The Shankarapuram Police on Wednesday arrested two youths on the charge of chain snatching and recovered from them a gold chain worth Rs. 18,000 and an autorickshaw. The names of the arrested were given as Anil Kumar (19) of Azadnagar and Sreenivasa (19) of Chamarajapet. Anil Kumar and Sreenivasa and their accomplice, Kumar, who is at large, used the autorickshaw while snatching chains from women, the police said.
Raid
The Central Crime Branch officials on Wednesday raided a video game joint on Ramamurthynagar Main Road and arrested three persons on the charge of gambling. The police seized Rs. 800 stake money and 14 video game machines from them.
