Back `Semiconductor players must target world market'

EXPRESSING optimism over growth prospects of semiconductor business in India, Applied Materials Inc, a leading supplier of products and services to global semiconductor players, today asked the industry not to get bogged down by the perceived lack of domestic demand and instead target the global market.

"If Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan can develop a strong semiconductor manufacturing base for supplying materials to the world market, there is no reason why India cannot," Mr Michael R. Splinter, President and CEO of the company, said while addressing a FICCI interactive session on `Global Trends in IT hardware: Business opportunities in India'.
