Back Textile exporters call for review of duty drawback scheme Our Bureau
Coimbatore , March 17 TEXTILE exporters coming under the organised industry have called for reverting to value-based duty drawback structure, which prevailed prior to January19, in the scheme of reimbursement of duty incidences under the all-industry duty drawback apparatus. Making their submission in this regard before the four-member committee constituted by the Centre to review the drawback scheme, the office-bearers of the apex textile body for organised mill sector, the Southern India Mills Association (SIMA) have cautioned that the new system of duty reimbursement guided by weight of the products exported would discourage value-added textile exports. The SIMA delegation emphasised that the medium of duty drawback should squarely address reimbursing duty incidences suffered by the inputs forming exports and the textile exporters be allowed to export only products and not duties. The committee is to submit its report by next month. Its members consisting of Mr Saumitra Chaudhuri, Mr T.R. Rustogi, Mr S.B. Mohapatra and Mr Mohanti (Joint Secretary, Drawback) had a common sitting here this morning in which, besides SIMA representatives, the captains of exporting industries from powerloom, handloom and hosiery sectors too presented their views. The SIMA Chairman, Mr Vijay Venkataswamy, later said that the review committee had during the interaction advised the member-mills to send individual data on their exports to the committee.
