Back Banking activities come to halt in Dakhsina Kannada

BANKING activities came to a halt in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Tuesday following a strike call given by United Forum of Bank Unions.

More than 350 employees of various public sector banks (PSBs) and some old generation private banks staged a protest demonstration in front of the main branch of State Bank of India in Mangalore against the proposed merger and acquisitions of PSBs. They also opposed the move to increase foreign direct investments in private banks.

Mr D.N. Prakash, General Secretary of Corporation Bank Officers' Organisation, and Mr P.R. Karanth, Secretary of Karnataka Pradesh Bank Employees' Federation, addressed protestors on the occasion.

Mr Prakash told presspersons that the strike was total in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
