TOYOTA Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd expects to be able to capture 15 per cent of the Indian car market by 2015. The company expects the Indian car market to have grown to 4 million by the year and accordingly, Toyota sees its production going up to 6 lakh by 2015.

In an informal chat with newspersons here on Wednesday, Mr A. Toyoshima, Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar, said that the company's production would go to 2 lakh by 2010 from 50,000 now and then to 6 lakh by 2015.

Mr Toyoshima said that the company would have exported 1.6 lakh gearboxes from India by June this year. Raising exports beyond that level would call for further investments, Mr Toyoshima said.

Earlier, speaking at a function organised by the Automotive Components Manufacturers' Association (ACMA), Mr Toyoshima said that while India's car sales were growing, "motorisation in India is yet to happen". He said that only when even a factory worker could afford a car "that is when India's motorisation can be said to have started."
