`Samadhan' scheme extended

CHENNAI, MARCH 24. The Public Works Department and Revenue Minister, O. Paneerselvam, today announced the extension of `Samadhan' scheme by one year. This was based on a request by K.N. Lakshmanan (BJP), the Minister told the Assembly.

In view of the heavy backlog of documents with Special Deputy Collectors (stamps) for the determination of market value that the scheme was introduced. This was to be in force till March 27.

The people could get back the documents by paying 60 per cent of the difference of stamp duty/ registration fee between the duty already paid and what is chargeable on the value of the property as raised by the Sub-Registrar. "Up to February 2005, out of 51,434 documents pending, 13,572 documents have been cleared and Rs.33.26 crores has been collected,.
