College Principal booked

A case has been booked against the Principal of the College for Women, Koti, Sulochana Reddy, under the Prevention of Atrocities Against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Act following a complaint by a second year student, N. Divya. According to the complainant, Ms. Sulochana Reddy abused her in the name of caste when she approached her seeking hall ticket for the exam. Divya maintained that she could not attend classes during February and March due to ill health and the principal allegedly abused her when she sought permission to attend the exams, the Sultan Bazar police said.

Auto driver flees with cash bag

An auto-rickshaw driver fled with a passenger's bag containing Rs. 80,000 at Anandnagar of New Malakpet in the small hours of Wednesday. A businessman, G. Radhakrishna, 58, boarded the three-wheeler at the Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station. He was about to pay the fare, when the auto driver sped away. The victim failed to note down the vehicle's number, the Chaderghat police said.

Threat calls to CA

A chartered accountant has allegedly received threat calls and a letter demanding payment of money from a person who claimed to be an associate of the naxalite leader, Ganganna, of Nandyal dalam. The self-styled naxalite called up S. Venkatadri a fortnight ago and had even sent a letter to his office in Ganganna's name demanding money, the Saifabad police said.

Fake passport: one held

A passenger, M .Chandraiah, 55, who had flown from Abu Dhabi via Doha to Hyderabad was arrested on Wednesday on the charge of possessing a forged passport. A native of Marupaka village in Karimnagar district, the accused confessed that he went to Dubai on a visiting visa three months ago and had bought a passport in the name of G. Kamalakar by paying 600 Dirhams to a local agent, as his employer retained his original travel documents, the Begumpet police said.

Temple looted

Gold and silver articles worth Rs. 10,000 were stolen from the Pochamma temple at Santoshnagar under Musheerabad police station area on Tuesday night. A local, Sushila, found the lock of the main doors broken and the property stolen when she went to the temple in the early hours of Wednesday, according to the Musheerabad police.

Two die in mishaps

Two persons were killed in road accidents in the city on Wednesday. A pedestrian, Vidyavathi Chary, 43, died on Wednesday when an APSRTC bus of Medhcal depot knocked her down on St. John's road in Secunderabad. The victim was shifted to the Gandhi Hospital where she died while undergoing treatment, the Gopalapuram police said. A worker of HPCL, Jayaram Reddy, 50, was killed in the early hours of Wednesday after an unidentified vehicle hit him while he was crossing the road near Alugaddabawi, according to the Chilakalguda police.
