Visakhapatnam , March 28

THE State Government has decided to allocate 22.5 acres of land in the city, where the TB Hospital is situated, to the three IT majors - Satyam Computers, Wipro and Tata Consultancy Services.

Mr Praveen Prakash, the District Collector, said here on Monday that the decision had been taken after a high-level meeting held in Hyderabad recently. The TB hospital would be relocated in the precincts of the Government Hospital for Mental Care.

Besides these major companies, said Mr Prakash, other IT companies would be given sites in an IT park to be set up at Rushikonda on an extent of 125 acres. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) would be entrusted with the responsibility of preparing layout for the park.

The Collector said the Chief Minister had also given orders for expediting the work on the construction of twin IT towers on an area of 11 acres near All India Radio station here. The APIIC had been appointed the nodal agency for finalising the tenders for building the towers. April 16 was the deadline, he added.

He said the Chief Minister had also evinced interest in developing the proposed Visakhapatnam Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) here on a par with Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad. The Collector said the land intended for the VIMS had already been levelled and the project would be taken up at a cost of Rs 130 crore.

The Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation had already contributed Rs 10 crore to the project. A meeting would be convened with the other prospective donors - the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, Vizag Port Trust and others - in Hyderabad shortly.

Mr Prakash said five acres of land would also be allotted to the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad, to set up a hospital near the proposed VIMS.
