Row over representation issue

HYDERABAD, MARCH 28. Members belonging to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the MIM, the CPI and the CPI (M) on Monday expressed unhappiness over the reply given by the Finance Minister, K. Rosaiah, on alleged meagre representation to Telangana people in directorates and commissionerates.

The TRS member, D. Srinivasa Rao, who raised the issue during question hour in the Assembly, sought to know whether it was true that the presence of Telangana employees in the directorates and commissionerates was meagre.

As per the Presidential Order, 40 per cent of the jobs should be reserved for people of Telangana on basis of the population.

He wanted the number of Government departments pruned to 102 as against 204 in tune with the Girglani Commission recommendations.

Mr. Rosaiah maintained that the Presidential Order did not apply to the posts in an office of the heads of department and commissionerates. Recruitment would be done on a Statewide basis, he added.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao charged the Minister with misleading the House by not clarifying about the proportion of Telangana employees. Akbaruddin Owaisi (MIM), Chada Venkat Reddy (CPI) and Nomula Narsimhaiah (CPI(M)) said the Government should come out with facts.
