HYDERABAD, MARCH 31. The Major Irrigation Minister, Ponnala Lakshmaiah, has said that modernisation of the canals under the Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme (RDS) would be taken up at a cost of Rs. 75 crores. Replying to a question by Congress member, G. Chinna Reddy, during the question hour in the Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Laxmaiah said that as per the recommendations of expert committee appointed last year, the improvements to RDS canal from 0 to 42.40 km in Karnataka and 42.60 km to 142 km in Andhra Pradesh were contemplated under the modernisation programme. Proposals for administrative approval were being formulated at a cost of Rs. 75 crores. The cost of works in Karnataka was Rs. 38.2 crores while the Andhra Pradesh works would be around Rs. 36.8 crores, he added.
