Throwing light on cameras

A new shop in the city focusses on cameras

A passion for cameras

Here is something to cheer for all photographers - amateur and professional. Camera Scan at Ambujavilasom Road is perhaps the only shop in the city that is exclusively meant for repairing cameras. From professional cameras to zoom lenses, block lenses, wide angle, autofocus and so on, the shop provides expert care for all types of cameras and handycams. Its owner, Aby K. George, was trained in repairing digital and electronic cameras in Singapore, at a workshop conducted by NAPET (National Association of Photographic Technicians), an international association that has only two members from India. Aby was in the news recently for designing a mobile phone charger, which does not need electricity to function. He is yet to get a patent for that. Aby's passion for cameras goes beyond repairing them.

Exhibition

He has organised a camera exhibition in Kottayam, perhaps the first of its kind in Kerala. Around 600 cameras, from the ancient pin-hole ones to the latest digital cameras were displayed. He has brought out a book in Malayalam on the different aspects of cameras, their working, repairs and so on.
