THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Fifth Economic Census is slated to get under way in the State from the first week of May.

A meeting of officials chaired by the Chief Secretary, Mr Palat Mohandas, was held here on Friday to work out its details. It decided to depute 5,200 women enumerators from `Kudumbashree' for the census work. They would be given special training for handling the work.

The census will cover agricultural and non-agricultural economic ventures engaged in production and distribution and services sectors. But cultivation for self-consumption and plantations would not be covered.

The meeting sought the cooperation of the people for the census work.
