Opinion - Letters to the Editor

Bus service

Sir, — From all accounts, the Government seems determined to give foolproof security to the passengers of the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus on April 7. But is it not taking a heavy risk knowing fully well how difficult it is to prevent the terrorists from striking? Even if everything goes well on Thursday, can heavy security be provided on all the subsequent runs?

S.S. Viswanathan,

Sir, — The decision to go ahead with the bus service despite threats is welcome. India and Pakistan are moving steadily, albeit slowly, towards normalisation of ties. The occasion will mark the emotional reunion of divided peoples.

Sanjeev Sharma,
New Delhi

Sir, — The bus link will take the India-Pakistan peace process forward. It will not only help unite the families divided by history but also help in eliminating hatred between neighbours.

P.K. Ramesh,

Sir, — The repeated threats from terrorist outfits show their frustration at the progressing ties and desperation to disrupt them. Their support base, it is obvious, has dwindled.

Hubli, Karnataka
