NEW DELHI, APRIL 7 . The Supreme Court today extended the interim bail granted to the former Mumbai Police Commissioner, R. S. Sharma, arrested for his alleged involvement in the multi-crore Telgi fake stamp paper scam case. A three-judge Bench comprising Justice Santosh N. Hegde, Justice B. P. Singh and Justice S. B. Sinha, had granted interim bail to Sharma in November 2004. Today this interim bail was ordered to be continued on the same conditions imposed last year. The Central Bureau of Investigation had charged Sharma with receiving illegal gratification to the tune of Rs. 22 lakhs for shielding Abdul Karim Telgi, the main accused in the Rs. 33,000 crore scam. Sharma, who has been charged under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act, remained in jail for 22 months. He had moved the apex court after the Bombay High Court rejected his bail plea.
