Back Motorola begins work on Hyderabad design centre

FOLLOWING its move to invest $17 million in Bangalore R&D centre, Motorola India today announced its engineering design centre in Hyderabad and the company plans to locate its technology campus here complementing its present development centre.

The area earmarked for the new design centre of Motorola's Global Software Group (GSG) is spread over 2.8 acres and will have the capacity to host 1,000 engineers and researchers. This centre, to be developed by L&T, with an investment of about $9 million, is expected to be ready by second quarter of 2006.

Addressing newspersons here after unveiling of site for Motorola design centre in India at Hitec City, the Executive President and Chief Technology Officer of Motorola Inc, Ms. Padmasree Warrior, said, "GSG India is a catalyst in Motorola's growth and is playing a key role in evolving future telecom technologies The new Hyderabad centre will be a major driver of the company's growth plans in India."

Motorola has one design centre in Bangalore and the centre at Hyderabad will be its second such facility working on areas such as wireless applications and networking technologies.

Motorola India had initially established its own development centre in Hyderabad and later in 2003 acquired Netplane, an embedded technology company. The two design centres here involved in software and network together have about 500 people and 2000 all over in India. This number is set to grow by 10-15 per cent.
