BELLARY, APRIL 8. The examination for first year BA and B.Com courses and second year BA courses of Gulbarga University, which were to be held here on Thursday, were cancelled following the theft of question papers. The theft reportedly occurred in Gangavati Venkataramanappa Pancharathna Padmavathi First Grade College in Hagari Bommanahalli town in Bellary district. The Additional Superintendent of Police, Gaikwad, told The Hindu that the first year Kannada (optional), first year Economic Analysis, and second year BA Political Science examinations were to be held on Thursday. However, one question paper from each of the three bundles was missing. A few question papers from the bundles of second year BA English (Basic), second year Economic Analysis, and first year Sociology papers, for which examinations were scheduled to be held on April 11, 13 and 15, were also found missing, he said. Mr. Gaikwad said that a few miscreants gained entry into the Principal's chamber through the window, broke open the lock of a room and the cupboard and took away a few question papers. The staff found the question paper bundles torn and notified the authorities of the theft. A dog squad and fingerprint experts were pressed into service. A case has been registered at the Hagari Bommanahalli police station. Information reaching here said that Gulbarga University is likely to postpone all examinations. However, a formal announcement is yet to made.
