TUTICORIN, APRIL 10. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying will conduct a national census on the important attributes of marine fisheries between April 15 and May15 to strengthen the database and information networking for the fisheries sector. Official sources said the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) would implement the National Marine Fisheries Census-2005 with a budgetary provision of Rs. 80.5 lakhs. Enumerators would collect data pertaining to family size, education, occupational status, inventory of craft and gear and other fishing-related equipment, besides information on skill acquisition through specialized training, from 3,000 marine fishing villages along the country's 6,200-km coast.
