THE Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, on Thursday inaugurated a multimedia exhibition on Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Smriti on Tees January Marg, New Delhi .

While inaugurating the exhibition titled `Eternal Gandhi', he said the Mahatma had a unique place in the world and his ideals of non-violence and satyagraha were being rediscovered by other countries as well and were relevant in the highly troubled world of today.

The exhibition, which has been put up by the Aditya Birla Group as a tribute to the humanitarian values that the Mahatma stood for, covers over 8000 sq. ft.

The initiative was spearheaded by Ms Rajashree Birla, Director, Aditya Birla Group, and was the brainchild of Dr Kumar Mangalam Birla who conceived it to pay homage to the Father of the Nation.

"At another level, for quite some time, all of us in the Birla family, who have been deeply influenced by the humane values that Gandhiji and Shri G.D. Birla espoused, felt a compelling need to present these in a contemporary fashion to the youth and the children of today.

To give them a sense of history, to help them realise at what cost we won our freedom, to give them a feel of our leaders, of our nation in its making - we believe is worthwhile.

Most importantly, to take the message of shanti - peace, of satya - truth, of ahimsa - non-violence, ekta - the universality of mankind, in today's day and age," said Ms Birla.

Dr Singh, in his address thanked the Birla family for its contribution to the country and for setting up the exhibition.

The exhibition is open to the public between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on all days barring Monday.
