NEW DELHI: India and Qatar have agreed in principle to enter into a new agreement by May under which India can import 20 million tonnes of LNG (liquefied natural gas) annually from Qatar by 2015. This was disclosed here on Friday by the Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister, Mani Shankar Aiyar, after a meeting with the visiting Deputy Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassem Bin Jabor Al Thani. Mr. Aiyar said a high level official team would visit Qatar by the end of this month to discuss issues in this regard. He said the agreement was expected to be signed when a Qatari delegation visited this country after the tour of the Indian team. If Qatar supplied 20 million tonnes of LNG, it would meet one third of the country's requirements.
