Three slain Maoists identified

VISAKHAPATNAM: Three of the four Maoists, who were killed in an encounter with the police near Gunukurai village in Gudem Kotha Veedhi mandal of the district on Sunday, were yet to be identified.

While the identity of the women naxals was yet to be confirmed, the only male Maoist killed in the encounter was identified as Ramana, commander of the Korukonda local guerrilla squad (LGS).

"We are yet to confirm the identity of three others,'' the Superintendent of Police, Sanjay Kumar Jain, told The Hindu on Monday.

According to unconfirmed reports, Swarupa, deputy commander of a new dalam, Anita, deputy commander of the Korukonda dalam, and Saroja, member of the Korukonda LGS, were among those killed in the encounter.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem of the Maoists was conducted at the Narsipatnam sub-division hospital amid tight security after an inquest by the Revenue Divisional Officer.
