ALAPPUZHA: There was tension at Alappuzha Medical College on Tuesday morning following a delay in conducting post-mortem examination. As many as seven bodies were in the mortuary of the college and the relatives of the dead said the bodies were showing signs of decay.
Doctors fail to turn up
They complained that though the police had informed the surgeons at the college, they failed to turn up to conduct post-mortem. Later, the surgeons arrived in the afternoon and conducted post-mortem examinations on the bodies . Sources in the college said the delay was due to the surgeons appearing in court on Tuesday as a part of official duties.
Staff shortage
They added that there was also a shortage of surgeons at the hospital, which also contributed to the delay.
