Colleges publicising ranks warned

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Minister for Higher Education, Pinnamaneni Venkateshwara Rao, has warned that affiliation of colleges that advertise the ranks and marks of students in the media would be withdrawn.

Speaking after releasing the Intermediate first year results, the Minister said that the colleges violating the Government's directions on the issue would be served a notice and if the response was not satisfactory the affiliation would be withdrawn.

He said the Government junior colleges would also conduct special classes during summer vacation for students appearing for competitive examinations like EAMCET and AIEEE.

He defended the special classes stating that pressure was immense from parents.

Moreover, students would not approach the private colleges paying huge sums for coaching if the facility was available in Government colleges, he said.

He made it clear that there was no problem with corporate colleges as long as they stuck to conducting coaching for competitive examinations and not second year classes.
