BJP ready to work with Vijaykanth

CHENNAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party is willing to work together with film star Vijaykanth in forming a front as an alternative to the two principal formations, State president C.P. Radhakrishnan said on Thursday.

``Having sensed the people's yearning for a political change, we are ready to align with new forces in forging a front,'' he told presspersons here.

Asked whether his party would approach the actor, Mr. Radhakrishnan said, ``we are willing to align with him, if he seeks our support. And our endeavour is to bring together all the new forces so that the political change, as desired by the people, will become a reality.''

Mr. Vijaykanth had not yet formed any party, Mr. Radhakrishnan pointed out.

On the May 14 Assembly byelections in Kancheepuram and Gummidipoondi, he said the BJP would decide ``at an appropriate time'' whom to support.

Asked about the State Ministers' participation in a road roko in the city on Tuesday, the BJP leader said it was condemnable, but the violation of well-cherished norms did not happen in a single day. ``Those who introduced this (to Tamil Nadu) are sharing power at the Centre while those who are continuing it are in power in the State.''

On the BJP's performance in the Assembly, Mr. Radhakrishnan said it was better than other parties.

`MLA should explain'

To persistent questions about the conduct of two MLAs who praised the Chief Minister repeatedly, he said ``commending the Government for its good deeds does not mean that we are supporting it.'' However, an explanation would be sought from an MLA (P. Arasan) who ``showered praise'' on the Chief Minister.

Members of the BJP would observe a fast here soon demanding early implementation of the desalination project. A meeting of the office-bearers would be held in Tiruchi on April 30 or May 1.
