Art in a child

A painting exhibition that showcased works by Delhi's slum children

Art has always acted as a medium to connect different genres. Aesthetically, it works to remove or highlight barriers of caste, colour and class. The World Through a Child's Eyes, a recent art exhibition at Habiart Foundation in New Delhi, was a clear example of it. Around 100 children from all strata of society displayed their art skills through this exhibition that was a joint venture of the Foundation and Creative Front, an association of artists working to promote art among children.

"We are celebrating the 16th anniversary of Habiart Foundation. We could have done with an art exhibition of renowned artists, but we found it better to give these children an opportunity to showcase their talent," said Anju Modi, the Foundation trustee. The Foundation is a Government registered charity trust that promotes understanding of art and its multiple usage to communicate modern-day issues. The highlight of the exhibition was the paintings by the city's slum children. Drawings of a rainy day, Lord Ganesha, children flying kites and colourful landscapes, all told a story. A story of innocence, adorability and appeal.

The children who participated in the exhibition are learning art from Bablu Basak, President, Creative Front.
