Kannur girls move ahead

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : Defending champion Kannur, host Kollam, Wayanad, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, Thiruvananthapuram, Thrissur and Malappuram moved into the quarterfinals in the girls section of the 29th Junior State basketball championship at the QAC floodlit court here on Friday.

Kannur and Wayand qualified from pool `A' while Kottayam and Malappuram made grade from pool `B'. Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram found their way into the quarterfinals from pool `C'. Pathanamthita and Thrissur moved into the last eight from pool `D'.

Kollam boys edged out Kozhikode 52-49 to qualify for the quarterfinals from pool `B'.

The results: Boys Pool `A': Pathanamthitta 70 (Shinumon Agugustine 18, Prajith Prabhakar 18) bt Thiruvananthapuram 54 (Aneesh 15); Pathanamthitta 42 (Raina Das 8) bt Idukki 7; Thiruvananthapuram 50 (K.A. Jasif 15, Jubin Johnson 13, K.A. Aneesh 10, R. Afsal 10) bt Thrissur 43 (Jovin P. Vincent 12, Geo Johan 11, Edurick Perera 10).

Pool `B': Kottayam 56 (Nirmal K. Mathew 21, Albin Baby 14) bt Kannur 45 (Saji Mathew 18, Nikhil 12); Kollam 52 (Jayadevan 22, Jithin Das 17) bt Kozhikode 49 (K.A. Jithin 16, Sajeer 11)

Pool `C': Ernakulam 60 (Ajith 17, Mathai George 13) bt Wayanad 23.

Girls Pool `B': Kottayam 43 bt Ernakulam 20; Wayand 28 (Shikka Jose 11, Theresa Susan 9) bt Alappuzha 27 (Sheena P.Issac 10); Kottayam 46 (Anu Elsa 10) bt Malappuram 19 (Manju Sunny 8).

Pool `C': Kollam 15 (M.Shijina 14) bt Kozhikode 1; Thiruvananthapuram 39 (Bylon Ratheesha 13) bt Kozhikode 21 (Shilpa Carolin 10)

Pool `D': Pathanamthitta 26 (Ligi Mathew 11) bt Kasaragod 11; Idukki 28 (Shiji Joseph 14) bt Kasaragod 15.
