Two persons die of electrocution

MANGALORE: Two persons were electrocuted in separate incidents on Saturday and Sunday.

Cypri D'Souza (54), a lineman with the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Ltd., was electrocuted near Pandeshwar new road here late on Saturday. Police said the victim, a resident of Neermarga, attached to Nehru Maidan office, had gone with his colleagues to attend to a complaint of power shutdown following heavy rains, which lashed the city in the evening.

Cyprian who had climbed an electricity pole was thrown off it when he came in contact with a live wire. Police said the victim sustained grievous injuries and later succumbed. It is not clear whether someone accidentally switched on power supply even as repair works were going on. The Mangalore South police have registered a case.

In the second incident, a woman was electrocuted when she accidentally stepped on a snapped live wire near Guthigar under Subramanya police station limits on Sunday. Police, who identified the victim as Parvathi (65), said power lines had snapped after a tree fell on it due to the heavy winds and rains in the area. on Saturday. A case has been registered.

Lorry driver killed

A driver was killed when the lorry, which he was driving, hit an electric pole and overturned near Heroor Bridge on National Highway 17 under the Brahmavar police station limits on Sunday.

According to police, the lorry was on its way to Udupi from Maharashtra. The driver, Vishwas Gulab Jagdale (27), a resident of Satara in Maharashtra, died on the spot. Another driver, Sunil, and the cleaner of the lorry, Ramdas, both from Satara, who were in the lorry, were injured. They were rushed to a private hospital in Udupi.
