Back Tsunami scare grips coastal village near Kakinada

Kakinada , April 28

AN unusually high wave (6-8 metres high) triggered panic at Uppada-Kottapalli village on the coast near here on Thursday morning, but there was no inundation of any part of the village. The beach road was, however, flooded for a while.

As a precautionary measure, the fishing boats were stopped in the port. The district authorities were on the alert.

There were reports from Nizampatnam and Machilipatnam of such high waves. But there was no explanation from any official quarter about the possible causes for the phenomenon.

A single-line press release issued by the Cyclone Warning Centre (Visakhapatnam) on Thursday evening said that there might be such high waves for a period of 12 hours or so along some parts of the coast.
