HYDERABAD: The Government has decided to strengthen the 17,792-strong home guards force by appointing an additional 3,000 personnel on contract basis. The proposal was approved at a Cabinet meeting held here on Monday. Briefing reporters later, the Minister, Md. Shabbir Ali, said the fresh appointments would entail an expenditure of Rs.8.59 crores each year. The home guards would be paid a daily allowance of Rs.75. The Cabinet also approved allotment of 84 acres of land for Government employees at Nellore.
