HYDERABAD: With the Maoist threat looming large, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's security personnel were put on high alert on Monday afternoon when a mobike suddenly came across the convoy at the busy Khairtabad junction on Monday. Ironically, the rider turned out to be a police Inspector from Anantapur district, Raghu Dalvai. He was placed under suspension. The police said the Anantapur policeman inadvertently came in the path of the convoy resulting in some tense moments. As the convoy screeched to a halt, the escort car, which was third in the row, was slightly damaged when the driver of the spare car lost control and rammed into it.
On way to Secretariat
Around 12.20 p.m., the Chief Minister was on his way to the Secretariat from his camp office at Begumpet. As the convoy was taking a left turn towards the Khairatabad flyover, the Inspector riding a two-wheeler suddenly came in front of the pilot car. To avoid hitting him, the driver applied sudden brakes and the driver of the second car in which Dr. Reddy was travelling, too followed suit. This led to a cascading effect on the fast moving convoy and the spare car crashed into the escort car.
Swing into action
Immediately, panic-stricken security personnel jumped into action and apprehended an equally shell-shocked Raghu. The Traffic police then took him to the Punjagutta police station where he revealed his identity. The Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tejdeep Kaur Menon, said that Raghu did not come in front of the convoy intentionally. Based on a complaint lodged by a Traffic sub-inspector, the Punjagutta police registered a case under section 279 of IPC (causing accident due to rash and negligent driving).
